Linebacker41's Raiders 2014 Mock Draft

Original Draft Was Pretty Good!

I thought the Oakland raiders pretty much knocked it out of the park with their 2014 Draft. Just a few tweaks to my hindsight draft

Show/Hide All Player Comments Round (Overall) Pos Name College Cls Height Weight 40
Show/Hide Player Comments 1st (5th) 34OLB Khalil Mack Buffalo rSr 6'2 5/8" 251 lbs. 4.55

Analysis: I called it several months out that Mack would fall to Oakland, mainly due to the incompetence of the Browns and Jaguars. I still feel he was the best player at any position, and I am amazed he fell that far. Mack will be all pro.

Show/Hide Player Comments 2nd (36th) QB Derek Carr Fresno St. rSr 6'2 3/8" 214 lbs. 4.69

Analysis: I never thought Carr would fall this far, but when he did it wasn't a difficult decision. He has the strong arm that Greg Olsen looks for in quarterbacks for his system, and is in an ideal situation in that he doesn't have to start right away. Being a California kid, he is also happy to be playing close to home. I don't think he is a lock to be the guy down the line (few quarterback prospects are), but he was good value in the second round, and well worth the selection for a team looking for their future signal caller.

Show/Hide Player Comments 3rd (81st) OG Gabe Jackson Mississippi St. rSr 6'3 1/4" 336 lbs. 5.34

Analysis: Jackson is a strong run blocker but a very underrated and intelligent pass blocker. Oakland sent out the message right here, they are going for big, dominant linemen. Great choice and a real system fit. I expect him to start early in the season at left guard, if not opening day.

Show/Hide Player Comments 4th (107th) NT Justin Ellis Louisiana Tech rSr 6'1 1/2" 334 lbs. 5.03

Analysis: Another 'going big' pick, and a good one. I like what I have seen from Ellis on tape. He brings real intensity, and surprisingly for a player of his size, can contribute as an interior pass rusher. He will see playing time this year, and fit well into the defensive tackle rotation.

Show/Hide Player Comments 4th (116th) CB Pierre Desir Lindenwood rSr 6'1" 198 lbs. 4.52

Analysis: McGill scored well on a lot of mock drafts, but not on mine. Despite his impressive size, he lacks physicality, and is always happy to let others make the tackle. My call is he will bust. The Raiders needed help at corner, and I think Desir is just a better player.

Show/Hide Player Comments 7th (219th) CB Travis Carrie Ohio rSr 5'11 5/8" 206 lbs. 4.43

Analysis: Although tape on Carrie is limited, he always showed well. A strong physical player with good coverage skills and a great break on the ball. He is already showing well at OTA's, and it comes as no surprise.

Show/Hide Player Comments 7th (235th) 43DE Ethan Westbrooks West Texas A&M rSr 6'3 1/2" 267 lbs. 4.72

Analysis: I don't know that much about Harris other than he didn't play football as a senior, and has had some major discipline issues. Westbrooks has some real pass rush ability and showed well at the East-West Shrine Game. He also brings some character issues, but I like his style of play and I think he has starter potential down the line.

Show/Hide Player Comments 7th (247th) SS Jonathan Dowling Western Kentucky rJr 6'2 3/4" 190 lbs. 4.52

Analysis: Despite some question marks, Dowling has a lot of upside, and this is exactly the right time to take a player like him.
