Show/Hide All Player Comments Round (Overall) Pos Name College Cls Height Weight 40
Show/Hide Player Comments 1st (2nd) OT Greg Robinson Auburn rSo 6'5" 332 lbs. 4.92

Analysis: I had a slight preference towards Matthews because he's more pro ready at LT but with the positive news on Long and Robinson likely playing LG as a rookie, I'm behind this pick 110%.

Show/Hide Player Comments 3rd (75th) CB Phillip Gaines Rice rSr 6'0 3/8" 193 lbs. 4.38

Analysis: First pick that I would change. I am extremely high on Joyner at FS so I pick Gaines here in order to play Joyner at FS. Gaines has elite long speed, impressive movement skills, and is smooth as heck for a 6'0" CB. He has the feet, hips and short area quickness to play in the slot with the long speed and size to play outside. I think he's going to be viewed as a steal down the line. He's soft, though. That's the one big negative. Doesn't hit hard and doesn't play with a lot of physicality. More of a pile watcher and ankle biter as a tackler.

Show/Hide Player Comments 4th (110th) WR Jared Abbrederis Wisconsin rSr 6'1" 195 lbs. 4.50

Analysis: To be fair, Alexander could end up being a stud. I never evaluated him. However, I am very high on Abbrederis. There are rumored concussion issues and if that's true, that would obviously affect this pick. However, I can't confirm that. What I can tell you is Abbrederis is a phenomenal route runner with reliable hands and enough speed to get vertical in the NFL. He's a heady player (former QB) that doesn't shy away from doing the dirty work. This kid is a pro ready player that sells his routes as well as anyone I've seen in college.

Show/Hide Player Comments 6th (188th) CB E.J. Gaines Missouri Sr 5'9 5/8" 190 lbs. 4.51

Analysis: I like the value and the player. We need depth in the secondary.

Show/Hide Player Comments 6th (214th) HB Isaiah Crowell Alabama St. Jr 5'11" 224 lbs. 4.57

Analysis: I think Crowell should have been drafted. He's a big boy (5'11" 225) and runs angry. The guy has character concerns but he was also Freshman of the Year in the SEC three years and 25 pounds ago. He's only gotten bigger while still retaining the explosiveness and speed to bust off runs when given a seam.

Show/Hide Player Comments 7th (226th) MLB Yawin Smallwood Connecticut rJr 6'2 1/4" 246 lbs. 5.01

Analysis: His stock tanked during the post-season period but I liked what I saw of Smallwood on film. He fights off blockers effectively using his length well, he plays hard with strength and physicality on the field, and he shows good awareness in zone coverage. He also has solid instincts and a strong motor. He's a bit stiff and lacks some lateral agility which makes him a liability in man coverage vs. slot WRs and HBs as well as an inconsistent tackler in space. Also tested MUCH slower than he plays in terms of closing speed. Plays like a 4.6 guy while he tested around a 5.0. He's depth at MLB and SLB and a possible future starter at SLB when Dunbar leaves.

Show/Hide Player Comments 7th (241st) WR Eric Thomas Troy Sr 6'0 1/2" 216 lbs. 4.53

Analysis: I love the way Thomas catches the football. He has massive hands (nearly 11 inches) and makes difficult catches look routine. He has a thick, impressive build in his lower body with a bubble. However, his upper body needs quite a bit of development. Still, at 6'1" 216, if he develops his upper body, he's going to be a load at WR. While his suddenness isn't impressive, he's strong, physical and has good straight-line speed. I think he has potential to stick on a roster and could end up being a dangerous slot and red-zone WR.

Show/Hide Player Comments 7th (249th) 43DE Michael Sam Missouri rSr 6'1 5/8" 261 lbs. 4.79

Analysis: I'm all for the Rams being the team to make this pick. Proud of the organization.

Show/Hide Player Comments 7th (250th) TE Blake Annen Cincinnati Sr 6'4 1/8" 247 lbs. 4.42

Analysis: Annen was used almost entirely as a blocker in college. However, he ran a 4.41 40 at his Pro Day and showed off straight-line speed on the field. Worth taking a shot here on an athletic TE that is more than willing to block that might have been underutilized.

I'd also like to say that I'd sign QB Brett Smith, QB Jeff Mathews, QB Tyler Russell or QB Connor Shaw in UDFA as our developmental backup.
