The Bench Press measures upper body strength and conditioning. It is measured by counting repetitions of 225 pounds. A repetition consists of lowering the bar down to your chest and raising the bar up to a lockout position and is usually judged for quality.
This is a physical endurance test. Typically guys with longer arms are at a disadvantage in this activity due to longer distance traveled by the bar between lowering and raising it per rep.
This measurement is important to all positions with an added emphasis to the offensive and defensive lines.See Also:
