Show/Hide All Player Comments Rd (Ovr) Team Pos Name College Cls Height Weight 40
Show/Hide Player Comments 1st (1st) 43DE Jadeveon Clowney South Carolina Jr 6'5 1/4" 266 lbs. 4.53

Analysis: In my opinion, Houston should trade down and select a QB later in the top-10, but I don't think any team will offer them enough to warrant them doing that. Clowney isn't a perfect scheme fit for Houston, but he is the best player in this class. There are enough day two QB options that Houston can afford to wait until #33 to grab someone.

Show/Hide Player Comments 1st (2nd) 34OLB Khalil Mack Buffalo rSr 6'2 5/8" 251 lbs. 4.55

Analysis: TRADE!!!!

Atlanta seems like a prime candidate to trade up for either of the defensive studs in this class. While the player available here (Mack or Clowney) doesn't change the teams involved in the trade, it does affect the return St. Louis gets for this pick. Clowney would probably bring St. Louis a third draft pick, but Mack "only" gives the Rams picks #7 and #37.

Mack is one of the few (if not only) outside linebacker in this class that is undoubtedly scheme independent. He's an all-around player that will thrive no matter where he plays.

Show/Hide Player Comments 1st (3rd) OT Greg Robinson Auburn rSo 6'5" 332 lbs. 4.92

Analysis: TRADE!!!!

Rumor has Buffalo being very interested in trading up for either Jadeveon Clowney, Greg Robinson, or Sammy Watkins. In this scenario, I have Buffalo trading up to land Greg Robinson, because he plugs a big hole for Buffalo at RT. Buffalo sends #9, #41, and #109 to a Jacksonville franchise that is willing to lose a little value, so they don't have to reach for a QB.

Personally, I feel like Robinson is being overrated due to potential, and I wouldn't take him inside the top-5 for that reason. However, teams are suckers for physical upside, so I think Robinson will be off the board fairly quickly. To me, Robinson is a day one guard with right tackle upside, but I would expect Buffalo to throw him into the fire immediately.

Show/Hide Player Comments 1st (4th) WR Sammy Watkins Clemson Jr 6'0 3/4" 211 lbs. 4.43

Analysis: Cleveland has done a solid job of building their roster over the past couple years. The only thing they really lack at this point is a #2 WR opposite Josh Gordon and a starting QB.

There is no QB I see Cleveland taking here, so I'll give them Sammy Watkins. I'm not trying to insult Watkins by making him a #2 in this scenario. He definitely has #1 potential, but in Cleveland he would be #2.

Show/Hide Player Comments 1st (5th) WR Mike Evans Texas A&M rSo 6'4 3/4" 231 lbs. 4.46

Analysis: TRADE!!!!

Oakland apparently loves Derek Carr, so I think he may be their target. I'm going to give Reggie McKenzie the benefit of the doubt in assuming he'd try to maximize the value Carr would bring by trading down to #13 before selecting him. St. Louis sends #13, #37, and #153 to Oakland to move up and select...

Mike Evans

The Rams need a big body WR with deep play ability to help open up the box and make plays in the red zone. Evans provides them with that threat.

Show/Hide Player Comments 1st (6th) OT Jake Matthews Texas A&M Sr 6'5 1/2" 308 lbs. 5.07

Analysis: The Rams nab their starting right tackle and left tackle of the future at #6. This pick provides St. Louis with great depth on the edges by allowing the solid Joe Barksdale to slide into a swing tackle (or potentially guard) role.

Show/Hide Player Comments 1st (7th) QB Blake Bortles Central Florida rJr 6'5" 232 lbs. 4.93

Analysis: Rumors have Tampa Bay linked to Blake Bortles if he falls to #8, so I'll play along for the time being. While Josh McCown was good last year and Mike Glennon flashed, it's still uncertain whether or not the long-term answer at QB is currently on Tampa's roster. This would be an ideal situation for Bortles, because it would take any stress from having to start immediately off him allowing him to learn.

Show/Hide Player Comments 1st (8th) WLB C.J. Mosley Alabama Sr 6'2" 234 lbs. 4.63

Analysis: The Vikings have a pretty glaring need at the middle linebacker position, and that won't cut it with Mike Zimmer. Mosley is a pure stud that falls due to positional value, but the Vikes get a great value. Zimmer makes Mosley a perennial Pro Bowl candidate.

Show/Hide Player Comments 1st (9th) 34OLB Anthony Barr UCLA Sr 6'4 7/8" 255 lbs. 4.41

Analysis: I'm not a huge fan of Anthony Barr, but he fits the range here. Jacksonville's pass rush has been abysmal recently, so Barr helps them in that regard. Johnny Manziel or a WR would be the sexy pick here, but I think Gus Bradley will use some pull to get a defensive player.

Show/Hide Player Comments 1st (10th) CB Justin Gilbert Oklahoma St. Sr 6'0 1/8" 202 lbs. 4.37

Analysis: The Lions have needed a stud CB for god knows how long, but it seems like they always ignore that need in the first round. Hopefully, this is the year the Detroit brass has an epiphany and decides to fix their horrific secondary.

That's a really fun draft. I enjoyed the trades and commentary. I could live with the Rams picks but I'd prefer not to trade up early if possible. Who would you have them draft in the next few rounds?

Bridgewater is an interesting pick to the Bengals. That might hurt Dalton's leverage in getting paid like a franchise QB. Watching him play in the playoffs last year was pretty bad but we have to remember that not one year does a career make. Peyton seemed like a choke artist in the playoffs for a long time before he put together a winner finally. Sometimes that's just how it goes.
