Coach Brian Kelly expected 13th-ranked Notre Dame to win big against No. 11 Southern California. Brandon Wimbush passed for two touchdowns and ran for two more, Josh Adams added three touchdown runs and the Irish took advantage of three USC turnovers in what was a surprisingly easy win in the storied series that dates to 1926.

TCU's KaVontae Turpin went backward to set up a dazzling 90-yard punt return for a touchdown. The Kansas offense just mostly went backward. Kenny Hill matched his career high with five touchdown passes, Turpin's return after backtracking to the 3 capped the scoring in the third quarter and the TCU defense dominated the overmatched Jayhawks in the fourth-ranked Horned Frogs' 43-0 victory Saturday night.

Penn State turned its whiteout into a knockout of Michigan. Saquon Barkley and Trace McSorley cut through one of the nation's stingiest defenses, each scoring three touchdowns, and the No. 2 Nittany Lions emphatically avenged its last regular-season loss with a 42-13 victory against the 19th-ranked Wolverines on Saturday night. Barkley set the tone the first time he touched the ball.

Xavier Preston sacked Charlie Brewer on a two-point conversion attempt with 17 seconds left and No. 23 West Virginia withstood a furious fourth-quarter Baylor rally to escape with a 38-36 win Saturday night. Will Grier threw for five touchdowns to pad his national lead with 26 for the Mountaineers (5-2, 3-1 Big 12), who led 38-13 at the start of the fourth quarter. Ebner's 9-yard TD catch from Brewer drew Baylor within two, but Preston got immediate pressure on the two-point try and ended Baylor's chances.

Derrius Guice ran for a season-high 276 yards and a touchdown to lead No. 24 LSU over Ole Miss 40-24 in Orgeron's return as a head coach to Oxford.

Rodney Anderson ran 22 yards for the go-ahead score with 7 seconds left, Baker Mayfield threw for 410 yards and accounted for four touchdowns, and the nation's ninth-ranked team overcame a 21-10 halftime deficit to beat Kansas State 42-35 and keep their playoff hopes alive.

Alabama went into halftime up by three touchdowns and not particularly happy. The top-ranked Crimson Tide was in a better mood after finishing off a 45-7 victory over Tennessee on Saturday, setting off the rivalry's traditional lighting of celebratory cigars throughout Bryant-Denny Stadium. Bo Scarbrough had two fourth-down touchdown runs and Alabama (8-0, 5-0 Southeastern Conference) improved to 11-0 in the Third Saturday in October game under coach Nick Saban.

By Miami's new standards, this game was decided early. Travis Homer's 33-yard touchdown run with 2:48 left was the latest entry in No. 8 Miami's growing list of fourth-quarter magic moments this season, and the Hurricanes extended their longest winning streak in 15 years by holding off Syracuse 27-19 on Saturday. ''Well, we found another way to make it really exciting,'' Miami coach Mark Richt said.

During his 13 seasons as Oklahoma State football coach, Mike Gundy has built a reputation for producing dynamic offenses and less than impressive defenses. Ramon Richards intercepted Sam Ehlinger's pass in the end zone in overtime, after Matt Ammendola kicked a field goal, giving No. 10 Oklahoma State a 13-10 victory over Texas.

Jonathan Taylor came to Wisconsin prepared for a heavy workload, even if he was buried deep on the depth chart when training camp opened. Taylor ran for a touchdown and broke the 1,000-yard mark for the season, Alex Hornibrook passed for two scores and the fifth-ranked Badgers stayed unbeaten with a 38-13 victory over Maryland on Saturday. Taylor had 126 yards on 22 carries, a relatively ho-hum day following two straight 200-yard outings.
