Show/Hide All Player Comments Round (Overall) Pos Name College Cls Height Weight 40
Show/Hide Player Comments 1st (8th) CB Justin Gilbert Oklahoma St. Sr 6'0 1/8" 202 lbs. 4.37

Analysis: A fast, physical compliment to Xavier Rhodes along with Josh Robinson covering the slot would give the Vikes a much needed good group of young corners for a handful of years.

Show/Hide Player Comments 2nd (8th) SLB Kyle Van Noy Brigham Young rSr 6'3 1/8" 243 lbs. 4.71

Analysis: Getting Van Noy in this spot is larceny. Tackles, sacks, ints, pass deflections, forced fumbles, touchdowns, blocked kicks, you name it, this guy excels at it. A dominant player with the ability to single handedly change a game i.e. J.J. Watt. A top candidate for D-ROY no matter who is lucky enough to draft him.

Show/Hide Player Comments 3rd (8th) SILB Shayne Skov Stanford rSr 6'2 1/4" 245 lbs. 5.09

Analysis: A natural leader with great instincts and a nose for the ball. Urlacheresque. The name Skov belongs on the back of a Viking jersey. SKOL!

Show/Hide Player Comments 3rd (32nd) FS Deone Bucannon Washington St. Sr 6'1" 211 lbs. 4.49

Analysis: Good size, speed, strength and overall athleticism. A great tackler with good coverage ability and ball skills. Should transition well in a switch from free to strong safety to play alongside Harrison Smith.

Show/Hide Player Comments 4th (8th) QB Zach Mettenberger LSU rSr 6'4 7/8" 224 lbs. 4.87

Analysis: A very good offensive line and cast of skill position players along with Norv Turner to coach him up would give the Vikes an automatic upgrade at the QB position in the 4th round.

Show/Hide Player Comments 5th (8th) WR Cody Latimer Indiana Jr 6'2 1/2" 215 lbs. 4.44

Analysis: Underrated. I think his early entry into this draft was so unexpected by scouts that they didn't pay enough attention to him over the last two seasons in which he accumulated 123 receptions for 1901 yards and 15 TDs. He's big and strong and has the ability to out jump and outphysical defenders for the ball. I have him at #7 on my WR board for this draft. He would be the missing piece on the outside opposite Greg Jennings allowing Cordarrelle Patterson to play inside on 3 wide sets.

Show/Hide Player Comments 6th (8th) NT Deandre Coleman California rSr 6'4 3/4" 314 lbs. 5.06

Analysis: With Kevin Williams future status as a Viking up in the air at this point, this pick would just be to fill the void. The only other NT I like this late is Wisconsin's Beau Allen, who could easily be added as a free agent and would allow him to play a short drive away from his home in Minnetonka, MN.

Show/Hide Player Comments 7th (8th) HB Marion Grice Arizona St. Sr 6'0" 208 lbs. 4.67

Analysis: Prior to the season Grice was considered a top 5 RB in this years draft class. Due to an injury that cost him the final 3 games of the season he slipped from rounds 2-3 to now 6-7. He's a low mileage back with an every down skillset and nose for the endzone. he's cought 91 passes, rushed for 25 TDs and added 14 more TDs on receptions over the past two seasons. He would be a perfect compliment to A.P. as well as posessing the perfect skillset for a Norv Turner type back.

That's the highest I've seen Gilbert yet. He is a polarizing prospect. I'm not buying Minnesota is locked into a QB in the 1st either. Carr makes more sense in the 2nd round if anything. Van Noy would be a steal there. He is going to make some team very happy as a 2nd round draft pick. I think Bucannon goes higher but he is a solid pick. Mettenberger seems like a much better pick for a team like the Vikings as for addressing the QB situation goes. Less risk or investment with the pick. I like Latimer as a later round WR too. WR is deep this year.
